Non-essential stores will remain closed at Idlewells from Monday 4th January as England is placed under a third national lockdown until at least the middle of February.

A handful of stores will remain open in order to continue to provide essential supplies for customers including Heron Foods, Boots, Superdrug, Holland & Barrett and Specsavers, while all non-essential stores will remain closed until further notice.

Access to the centre is once again restricted to help control the spread of the virus, with entry only permitted via the bus station or Low Street. Queuing systems also remain in force, with distance markers in place outside each store to ensure that social distancing guidelines are followed by shoppers.

The centre will be open between 8am – 6pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am – 4pm on Sundays – although individual store opening hours might differ. On-site toilet facilities will remain accessible with attendants on hand between 10am and 4pm.

Our car park will also remain open with parking charges in operation however, the decision to keep the car park open will remain under review by the team throughout the lockdown and any further updates about this will be posted on our website and social media channels.

Those wishing to use the Amazon lockers can continue to do so for parcel collections however all children’s rides, vending machines and our photo booth will remain closed to help control the spread of the virus. A reduced number of chairs will remain available in the centre with some still reallocated to the central square.

A one-way system remains in place to protect shoppers, with floor stickers in place to guide you around the centre and an enhanced cleaning regime continues to be implemented to sanitise common areas and visitor touchpoints. We also have several hand sanitiser dispensers available and we encourage customers to use these whenever they enter and exit a store.

Though disappointing, a new lockdown is a necessary step to control the spread of the virus across England and ensuring Idlewells is compliant with the measures has proven straight forward following previous lockdowns and Tier 4 measures for Centre Manager Chloe O’Donnell and the team.

“As is the general feeling right now across the country, we’re bitterly disappointed that we have to go into another lockdown,” explains Chloe.

“However, after seeing the latest government figures and how quickly the virus is spreading, it is a necessary step to protect people and as before we are doing all we can to make Idlewells a safe environment for people if they need to visit for essential supplies. Signage remains in place to remind people of the measures and guidance, and our team continues to be on hand should anyone need assistance,”

Chloe adds, “We urge the community of Sutton-in-Ashfield to only visit Idlewells if it is essential to do so, and to continue their excellent efforts of the past nine months in order to control the virus locally and play their part in helping the country to eventually move out of this latest lockdown.”
